The boundary wall was built by Reddy kings about 800 or 900 years ago. Later Sage Rishyasringa and others, in search of a suitable place for performing penance, heard Veda recitals in perfect swarms from the hill here, named it as ‘Vedadri’Īnd performed their penance here and having found in a cave a swayambhu YOGANANDA NARASIMHA, installed it here.Īgain at Garuda’s request Lord self-manifested as VEERA NARASIMHA on the top of Garudadri hills, 5km east of VedadriĪs per the prayers of Vanadevatha, the Lord is pervading the mountains as LAKSHMI NARASIMHA MURTHY. Later Lord Brahma installed SALIGRAMA NARASIMHA MURTHY on the SALIGRAMA mountain. On Killing Hiranyakasipa, Lord Vishnu self-manifested on Vedadri hill as JWALA NARASIMHA. Lord told them that their wishes will be fulfilled during ‘Narasimha avatar’ and asked Veda Purushas to remain in Krishna waters as Saligram till then and further assured them that He will stay with them as Panchamurthy. River Krishnaveni also wished to perform daily abhishekam to Him. The Vedapurush requested Him to reside on their heads. Lord Vishnu in His ‘Mathyavatar’ (fish) rescued Vedas from the demon Somakasura. The Lord NARASIMHA exists here in five forms viz JWALA, YOGANANDA, VEERA, SALIGRAMA and LAKSMI NARASIMHA. In the waters of the Krishna River, Lord Nrsimha can also be found in Salagram form. This Temple is located on the banks of River Krishna at VEDADRI village in Krishna district of AP and at a distance of 80 km from Vijayawada and 10 Kms from Chillakallu on Vijayawada-Hyderabad National Highway. Here Lord Lakshi Narshimar the incarnation of Sriman Narayanar fulfilled the desire of both veda purusha and river Krishnaveni.
Krishnaveni prayed to Narayanar, to allow her to worship him daily. Lord brahma personally brought the Saligrahma moorty to the River Krishnaveni and erected it on the saligrahma mountain. Even before Lord Brahma could offer his prayer to Lord, sathya lokha was consumed in flames. Lord Brahma requested Jwala Narashima to stay at Sathya loka as Saligrahama, and Lord Narashimar obliged to do so. After Hirnaya kashapa vadha, Lord Narayanar who incarnated himself as Narashima Swamy, stayed as Jwala Narashimar on the mountains head at Vedadri in fulfillment of his words to Veda Purushas. Lord agreed to stay till the time comes and he asked them to stay in River Krishnaveni as Saligrama stone. The Vedas took human form and thanked Lord Vishnu, and asked Lord to stay with them on their heads. Sriman Narayana took the form of fish and entered deep into the ocean and rescued Vedas from asura. Lord Brahma approached Lord Vishnu to help him out to get back the vedas from the asura. The Brahma Purana says Somasura stole the Vedas from Brahma, and hid himself into the ocean.
